Mission Statement for young Adults and youths
Over the last fives years SSF has been serving the diverse Africans/ Sudanese, Kenyans, Congolese, Rwandans, Burundi’s, Angolans, Senegalese, Ethiopians and other non mentioned groups. Our goal as a non profit organization is to make ensure that Africans communities in the outskirt of Raleigh North Carolina get the help they need to adapt into the western culture and to be more successful as the first generation of emigrants into the US.
Goals of adult, youth, and leadership development program
The purpose of the program is to equip the African diverse adults and youth with the skills they need to assimilate into the civilized culture upon or after their resettlement in the United States. This program will help and enables the young adults in gaining an understanding in how to be leaders and to serve our community effectively: As a community service nonprofit organization, SFF Young adults, and youth development program is designed to provide the services to our community at large in the following areas:
A-provide basic skills in ESL/EFL (English as a second language or English as a foreign language)
B- Help the members of our community in finding an employment
C-Obtain legal documents such as green cards (Permanent resident Card), citizenship, and immigration naturalization certificates.
D-Provide informative computer skills trainings
E-Provide information for legal counseling
F-Provide academic information on SAT or college entrance placement exams for young adults.
G- Provide and train the young adults and youth to gain leadership skills.
SSF is currently developing a suitable program to meet the needs of young adults and youth learn the basic reading English skills to improve grades in all levels from elementary through high school. The times schedule of meetings are still to be announce to the community. This is a free of charge program, and we do encourage that the community takes the advantage of this program. The program will last for at least 6-12 months depending on the availability of funding. Upon completion of the programs SSF Board and Staffs members would provide the certificate in recognition of the individuals who have completed the program. Remember, the certificate is not intended and would not replace nor, acts as substitute for the recognized North Carolina academic institutions/Curriculums.
The program will also involve in helping the community members on how to search for an employment opportunities by making connections with the major industrial companies within the triangle area and around Raleigh and other counties represented
SSF will also work close with the community members who need assistant in obtaining legal documents. The program coordinator and staffs members will make sure all applications for green cards and citizenship are fill out correctly. We will also hold sessions for the members who are preparing for citizenship and immigration naturalizations written and oral interviews.
We are also developing an employment placement training program which will help new immigrants and other unemployed community members find jobs and train them to be self sufficient employees. These sessions will be announced to the community in a timely manner.
The youth and young adult program will also commit to train the community members with computer skills. The computer skills are very crucial since we all live in a civilized nation. Many companies including the academics institutions are rapidly moving the application processes to online settings. It will almost be impossible to complete these forms without computer skills.
The program will also assist in providing the youth and young adults with an inside information on how to prepare for colleges. The staff members will help with applications and assist coaching or tutoring with SAT entrance practice exams. The program will also provide opportunities for college students, and retire academics professors and other community members to participate in tutoring the youth on voluntary basis.(SSF is currently developing relations with RTP Universities such as UNC-CH, DUKE, NCS,WFU,NCC and other academic institutions within the north Carolina state) to articulate the academic needs of our Africans community known.
In addition, the program will be providing leadership training skills. The leadership training will be held within the SSF center. During these sessions, SSF will regularly invite guest speakers domestically and from the out of States top universities, cooperate companies and businesses in the in North Carolina to host these sessions
The Program will also focus on bringing the awareness by educating the young adults and youth to maintain good health and to abstain from drugs and drugs abuse including alcohol.
In the near future, the program looks forward to develop the strategies on how to educate young adults and youth in our community in the most critical areas of human health such as sex education. The program will continue to invite doctors and health professions around the triangle area to lecture on topics relating to health and well-being of our community.
The program will also engage young adults and youth in our community to remain active, and encourage them to maintain our cultures. We will quarterly plans to hold events such as dances and other African costume and traditionally related ethics.
